MINUTES OF APRIL 4,2011 BOARD MEETING

LITCHFIELD COMMUNITY CENTER

 

President Donovan called the meeting to order at 9 a.m. Present were:K.Davis,P.Donovan,S.Gault,B.Harrington,K.Mayers,M.Pond,B.Veerman,M.Wallace.

Guest: Marion Lawrence.

 

The minutes of the April 4,2011 meeting were accepted as presented.

 

Treasurer's Report- B.Harrington stated the balance in the checking and CD accounts as of 3/31/11 was $7,826.62 and an Education Fund balance as of that date, $3541.77.

The report was accepted as read and filed for audit.

 

Program - K.Mayers reported the International Luncheon featuring Mitchell Krauss was a great success. The food and service at LaCupola restaurant, however, left much to be desired.

     Big Issues in Small Towns meeting will be May 11 at noon at the Morris Community    Room. Area selectmen have been invited.

     The Annual Meeting is June 14 at the Torrington Country Club. Business session at 11 a.m. followed by noon luncheon. The cost is $25. A guest speaker will be confirmed in the next few weeks. Mr. Ralph Nader regretted he had another engagement on that date but was interested in speaking to the League in the future.

 

President Donovan cautioned Board Members that it is urgent to name a Voter Service chair for the fall debates and to find volunteers to register voters. Registrar of Voters Marie Wallace announced the new Secretary of the State Denise Merrill is coming to the Litchfield High School on May 3 to speak to the students when the Registrars conduct the voting registration session. The event will  probably be aired on Cable 5.

 

Chad Fagan, recipient of League's $100 sponsorship for his attendance at the Close Up program in Washington D.C. ,along with his teacher will be League's guest at the May 2 Board Meeting. The Board agreed to hold the meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the Community Center.

Following the Board Meeting Nancy DePecol from the Northwest Chamber of Commerce addressed the members about the advantages of membership in the Chamber. She also spoke about the upcoming program May 4 to discuss finances with young people. Our League will supply brochures for the complimentary packets to be distributed.
