Board meeting
At Home of President Donovan
President Donovan called
the meeting to order at 9:15 a.m. Present were: K.Davis, P.Donovan, A.Goodkind, B.Harrington, M.Lieff, K.Mayers, M.Pond, B.Veerman, M.Wallace.
Minutes of the June 7, 2010
Board meeting were accepted as presented. Minutes of the June 21, 2010 annual
meeting were also accepted as presented.

TO HOLD LEAGUE'S
BOARD MEETINGS THE FIRST MONDAY OF THE MONTH AT THE LITCHFIELD COMMUNITY CENTER
Discussion: members
agreed the Corresponding Secretary be instructed to send a thank you note and flowers
to the Litchfield Bancorp for their past generous use of their Board Room
for our meetings.
FALL PROGRAM-"Is
Affordable Housing Possible in Litchfield County"
K. Mayer
reported the upcoming brown bag public meeting will be held September 22 at OWL.
Area legislators, housing trust advocates and other interested parties will
receive invitations. Bob Petricone and Dick Sears will be the speakers.
Resignations-Longtime
member Adele Goodkind will be moving to Boston this fall and regretfully
resigned as Corresponding Secretary at today's meeting. Bibby Veerman
volunteered to assume this portfolio.
Treasurer's Report - B.Harrington stated a checking and savings account as of
August 31, 2010 of $9,023.66. The report was accepted as read and filed for audit.
It was also reported
that LWVLCounty has joined the Northwest Chamber of
Commerce.
There was a discussion
regarding a misunderstanding of fees charged by Wamogo
for the October debate ($484.50).President Donovan believes League is excused
from these charges and she will contact the State League for advice.
DEBATES
To date the 5th
Congressional debate is scheduled October 14 at Wamogo
at 7 p.m.
Tentative debates are
planned for Cook/Traub in Torrington, Miner/Zappone
66th in Litchfield and possibly another with the Lakeville Journal. Questions
for the candidates should be mailed to Katherine Davis.
Publicity-Mildred Pond
has assumed responsibility for League's publicity including contacting the area
media. Bonnie Baldwin will no longer be involved.
Archives - M.Lieff stated she had received a letter from the
Litchfield Historical Society thanking League for donating their scrapbook of
2009-10 minutes and activities.
FUNDRAISER-The tea and
book discussion featuring Mary Higgins Clark will be held at the Litchfield
Community Center December 8 at 3 p.m. The Board
discussed the admission price of $30 and also adding a sponsorship category.

four nay.
Civic Program-President
Donovan reported Representative Cook is interested in oining
with the League in a civic program for area schools. Board members expressed
interest and considered M.Lieff and Gene Horrigan as
potential committee members.
President Donovan
suggested League reinstate the Observer Corps. The topic was tabled for
discussion at the next Board meeting.
